Cub Scouts is a program for boys in the first through fifth grades. We teach boys the core values of Scouting while having lots of fun. Cub Scouts belong to small groups of boys called Dens. Dens meet weekly or bi-weekly and once a month all the dens come together for Pack meetings.
Pack 254 is chartered through St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano, Texas. Pack 254 is a member of the Great Plains District, Circle 10 Council, and the Boy Scouts of America. Cub Scouts is a part of Boy Scouts, which boys will graduate into during their fifth grade year. Neither boys, nor their parents, need to be Catholic to join Pack 254; we are open to everyone who shares the ideals of Cub Scouting.
PACK LEADERS
Every boy deserves a trained leader. Boy Scouts of America believes this and so does Pack 254. The pack has a training coordinator to oversee that all adults are up-to-date on their training. Every adult leader in Pack 254 undergoes position-specific training from the Great Plains District. Some adults also complete additional Cub Scout training in things such as camping, swimming, and first aid. In addition to leader-specific Cub Scout training, all adult leaders are required to complete the annual St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Safe Environment Training, including background checks.
The Boy Scouts of America has adopted a number of policies aimed at eliminating opportunities for abuse within the Scouting program. Some of these policies include two-deep leadership, no one-on-one contact, respect of privacy, and prohibiting hazing.PACK MEETINGS
Pack meetings, Den meetings, and Parent meetings are held every month beginning in August and running through May. Unless otherwise specified, all meetings are hosted at the St. Elizabeth Faith Formation Center which provides us with tables, chairs, restrooms, and other amenities.
- Den meetings are usually held 2 times per month on Friday evenings, starting at 6:30, lasting one hour.
- Pack Meetings are usually held once per month at 7:30pm (immediately following den meetings) and include award ceremonies, rank advancements, den demonstrations, news and announcements, and other important information. These meetings alternate in occurrence with Parent Meetings and usually last about one to one and a half hours.
- Parent Meetings are usually held once per month at 7:30pm (immediately following den meetings) and generally cover activity planning, decisions, and discussions. These meetings alternate in occurrence with the Pack Meetings and usually last about one hour.
COST
Pack 254 knows activities for your children can be expensive. That’s why we try to keep costs low for all families. Annual Pack dues for the Scout are $126.00, which includes council fees and 12 issues of Boy’s Life Magazine. If the Scout does not want Boy’s Life Magazine, the annual dues for the Scout are $114. Parent annual dues are $24 ($36 with Scouting magazine), if the parent would like to join and play a role within the Pack Committee or another leadership position, which we highly encourage. Pack 254 t-shirts are an additional $15 each.
Class A Uniforms (the blue or tan uniform, depending on grade) may be purchased at the Scout Shop in Fairview or online. First year cost is approximately $65 (shirt, required patches, neckerchief, neckerchief slide and handbook) and $20 each additional year (new year’s handbook, neckerchief and neckerchief slide). A pack t-shirt (class B uniform) is offered for purchase each year. Additional official BSA uniform items (pants/shorts, hat, socks, etc.) may be purchased at the parent’s discretion.
The pack pays for all awards, patches, and recognition the boys earn. Minimal costs occur throughout the year and for summer activities. At this time, we do not charge den dues.For more information visit our Pack Website: http://pack254.org.
